Hydranos is a literary fantasy novel. Its fairytale-esque writing style, true to its unique genre, and the inspiration it draws from Greek mythology make up this special read, the first in the series The Age of Stones. Hydranos was originally published in Greek and the author translated and published the book in English herself. I loved exploring the world and the characters, which were intricately built. This book just brought back memories of me reading Greek mythology tales when I was younger, and that played a big role in my reading experience. The writing is very flowery and descriptive. I have to admit that there were points when I had to reread certain parts; however I understand the task that comes with translating a novel this grand. Its genre-bending quality would be the reason I would recommend it to fantasy readers that want to try out something different.

Are you looking for Greek mythology inspired high fantasy (that reads like interconnected short stories) with superb world building,strong female characters, no unnecessary romance, and a heaping dash of whimsy and adventure? Then this book is for you!
This is definitely not a two dimensional fantasy story. The world is complex and expansive, with plenty of political intrigue and philosophical reflection to make Cosmos come alive around you. A great ensemble of characters as well. I can't think of a single one I wasn't intrigued by in some way. There also wasn't a bunch of romance, which can really derail some books in my opinion. Overall, a great debut by an upcoming author.
